Segmented Turbo

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a segmented turbo blade for?

It is the general-purpose fast-cutting blade for concrete, block, brick and masonry on a hand-held saw or grinder. The turbo segment clears debris out of the cut faster than a continuous rim, which is why it cuts quicker, and the segment gaps let the core cool. It is a speed blade, not a chip-free finish blade.

What sizes do you stock the Silver Bullet® in?

4", 4.5", 5", 7", 8" and 10". Match the diameter to your saw's guard, not just its motor, and remember a circular blade cuts a little under half its diameter, so a 7" blade is roughly a 2-1/4" to 2-1/2" cut.

Segmented turbo or continuous rim, which should I use?

Segmented turbo when speed matters and a slightly rougher edge is acceptable: concrete, block, brick, pavers, general demolition cutting. Continuous rim when the edge quality matters more than the pace, as in porcelain, ceramic tile, glass and finished stone. Most crews carry both.

Will it cut asphalt?

Asphalt is soft and highly abrasive, and it will erode the steel core under the segment on a blade that is not built for it. For anything more than an incidental cut, use a soft-bond blade with undercut protection out of our asphalt range rather than a general-purpose turbo blade.

Wet or dry, and what about the dust?

These run dry or wet. Wet cutting is faster, extends blade life and controls the dust, so use water whenever the job allows it. Dry cutting concrete or masonry produces respirable crystalline silica quickly, so run a shroud and a vacuum rated for silica when you cannot use water.
