Frequently Asked Questions

What size blade does my walk-behind saw take?

We stock 14" through 72" for walk-behind saws. Blade size is driven by depth of cut, and a circular blade cuts a little under half its diameter once the guard and flange are accounted for, so a 14" blade is a roughly 4-1/2" to 5" cut. Never fit a blade larger than the saw's rated capacity. Tell us your saw and required depth and we will confirm the size.

What arbor and drive pin do these use?

Our walk-behind blades run a 1" arbor with a wet pin hole, and larger deep-cut blades come in 5SK 1+1+4 and 6-pin drive configurations. The drive pin pattern has to match your saw's flange or the blade will not seat and drive properly. If you are not sure what your flange takes, send us the saw model.

Green concrete or cured concrete, does it matter?

It matters a great deal. Green concrete is still soft and very abrasive, so it needs a hard-bond blade with undercut protection, and our Pro Green Concrete range is graded T1 through T7 by how fast the slab is curing and how hard the aggregate is. Putting a cured-concrete blade in green concrete wears it out fast; the reverse simply will not cut. Tell us the pour age and aggregate and we will grade it for you.

Which blade cuts asphalt?

Asphalt needs a soft-bond blade with undercut protection, because asphalt is abrasive and will erode the steel core beneath the segment on a blade that is not built for it. Our Ultra Series asphalt blades cover that, including looping blades for cutting in loop detector slots. Cutting asphalt with a concrete blade is the fastest way to ruin a blade core.

What kerf do I need, and what about curb and looping work?

We stock kerfs from .125" through .500". Standard cutting uses the thinner kerfs; loop detector slots and crack chasing need the wide .250" to .500" blades to cut a slot of usable width in one pass. We also make dedicated curb saw blades in 20" through 42" with an aligned diamond pattern for radius curb and gutter work.
