Can a diamond blade cut ductile iron pipe?

Yes, and it is the tool of choice for it. Our Blue Thunder® blades are built specifically for ductile iron, and they cut without the sparks, heat and rapid wear of an abrasive wheel. A general-purpose concrete blade is not built for iron and will not last.

What sizes and arbors do you stock?

12", 14" and 16", all .125" thick, in both 1" arbor with wet pin hole and 20 mm mount. A blade cuts a little under half its diameter, so match the size to the pipe you are cutting: bigger pipe needs a bigger blade, not more pressure.

How does this compare with an abrasive cut-off wheel?

An abrasive wheel consumes itself as it cuts, shrinks with use and throws heavy sparks and dust. A diamond blade keeps its diameter through the job, cuts more cleanly and lasts many times longer, so cost per cut is normally lower even though the blade costs more up front. On a crew cutting pipe regularly, the difference is significant.

Will these cut cast iron and other metals as well?

Blue Thunder® is built specifically for ductile iron. For ferrous metals generally — steel, rebar, plate, rail — we make the Omnivore® range, and Omnivore® cuts ductile iron well too: faster than Blue Thunder®, though it does not last as long in it. Wet or dry, and how do I make the cut last?

Keep the blade moving and do not force it: pressure does not speed up a diamond blade, it just adds heat. Water cools the core and helps clear the cut where your setup allows it. Let the blade reach full speed before entering the cut, and never twist it in the kerf.
